3 Signs Of Potential Tire Issues

Blog

Your tires should be inspected often, but chances are you don't give them a second glance unless there's a noticeable problem, or someone else alerts you to a problem. If you aren't looking at your tires, you could be missing some important signs of a tire problem that could be very dangerous for you. If your tires are not in good condition, they may be hazardous to drive on and you need to have them either repaired or replaced. Keep in mind that your tires should be rotated roughly every other time you get your oil changed, and you should have an alignment every couple of years. Read on for signs of a potential tire issue.

1. Loud Noises While Driving

If you notice loud noises when you drive and it's coming from your tires, it could be that they are worn unevenly and the sound you hear is the uneven rubber hitting the pavement, or it could be that your tires have so little rubber left on the tires. The noise you hear is road noise that usually is absorbed into the rubber, but without the rubber, you are now hearing all of that road noise. If it's unusually loud while you drive, take a good look at your tires. They could also be flat, so be sure to inspect the tire pressure in your tires.

2. Difficulty Stopping

If you have a difficult time stopping your vehicle, it could be your braking system, or it could be your tires. If you don't have enough tread left on them, it can make stopping difficult. You may also notice your vehicle sliding or skidding when you attempt to accelerate as well. If the handling of your vehicle has changed, you need to inspect your tires for damage or wear.

3. Increased Usage Of Fuel

If you have been filling up at the gas pump more often than usual, your tire pressure may be to blame. If your tires are too low, it can cause issues with fuel consumption, as it takes more for your vehicle to move on flat tires. Check your tire pressure and make sure they are at the proper level. Low or flat tires can also cause an issue in the handling of your vehicle, and it can wear your tread unevenly as well.

If you have noticed any of these signs, it's important to take your vehicle in to have your tires inspected, repaired, or replaced at your local auto service shop. Don't ignore the tires on your vehicle, make sure they are in good working order to ensure your vehicle is road-ready.
