However, you should reconsider using a DIY kit to fix the crack in the glass instead of having a professional do it for you. Below are a couple of reasons why repairing your own windshield is a bad idea.

One reason why repairing a cracked windshield using a DIY kit is never a good idea is that there is a high chance of failure. Even though the instructions on the kit seem simple enough, even the slightest error in mixing the patch compound or applying it can result in an incomplete repair or even further damage.
If the repair work is not done perfectly, you will ruin the glass of the windshield, making it unrepairable even if you were to take it right away to a professional shop. Since there is no way to repair the damage, you would end up having to have the windshield replaced.
2. Repairing the Windshield Yourself Can Cause Issues with Having Future Damage Covered
Another reason why you should not use a DIY kit to fix your car windshield crack is that doing so can cause issues if you need to have future damage covered. Unlike when you have the repair work done by a professional, there is no warranty to cover any damage caused by or as a result of the DIY patch.
Also, if your windshield breaks or shatters and your insurance company finds out that you tried to fix it yourself, they most likely will not cover any of the damage. You would be stuck with paying for the cost of fixing or replacing the windshield out of your own pocket.
When you use a DIY kit to repair a crack in your windshield, the chances of failing to do so correctly are great, and if the patch is not done correctly, could result in you having to have the entire windshield replaced. Doing so can also cause issues in the future if there is further damage done to the windshield since the work does not come with a warranty and your insurance company may refuse to pay. Instead of using a kit to fix the damaged glass yourself, take your car to a shop that offers automotive windshield repair services to have a professional do the job for you.
